Carpet, rugs, upholstery.
We get the dirt out.

The go to carpet cleaners of Northern Virginia for over a decade.

Truck mounted hot water extraction for the wall to wall, hand washing off site for the rugs that need it, and the same crew doing both.

Drag across the rug to clean it

Drag it clean. Rugs like this are washed by hand at our shop, never scrubbed with a machine on your floor.

Wall to wall, done properly

Truck mounted hot water extraction. Dry to the touch in about four hours, walkable sooner.

Most of what makes a carpet look tired is not stains, it is grit sitting down at the base of the pile cutting the fiber every time somebody walks on it. That is why traffic lanes go dull first.

We pre spray the lanes, give it time to work, then flush it out with hot water at pressure and pull it back out. What comes up is the part people always want to see.

Furniture: we move what two people can carry and put it back on blocks. Beds, pianos and full china cabinets stay put.

Before we started After we finished

Drag the handle left and right. The dirty half on the left is where we came in.

How a rug is actually washed

Five steps, four to seven days, and it happens at our shop, not in your living room.

1

Inspect and dye test

We look for dry rot in the foundation, moth damage, old pet damage and previous repairs. Then we wet a hidden corner of every color to see which dyes are going to move.

2

Dust it out dry

A wool rug can hold pounds of dry soil down in the foundation. That comes out before any water touches it, otherwise you are just making mud in the weave.

3

Wash by hand, with the pile

Cool water, a wool safe shampoo, and a soft brush worked in the direction the pile lays. Fringe gets its own attention because that is where the gray always is.

4

Rinse and extract

Rinsed until the water runs clear and the pH comes back down, then squeezed out. Leftover detergent is what makes a rug re soil in a month.

5

Dry flat, then groom

Dried flat with air moving over it so the foundation does not shrink unevenly. Pile groomed, fringe combed straight, then wrapped for the trip home.

The one thing we will not do

Run a rotary machine over a hand knotted rug in your house. It is fast, it is what a lot of companies do, and it grinds the pile and pushes soil into the foundation where nobody can rinse it out. If someone quotes you a hand knotted rug cleaned in place in an hour, that is what they are about to do.

Questions we get

How long until I can walk on it?

Socks, about an hour. Shoes and furniture back down, about four hours. Humid days run longer. If it still feels damp the next morning something went wrong and we want to hear about it.

Do you move the furniture?

What two people can carry, yes, and it goes back on blocks so damp carpet does not stain the legs. Beds, pianos and loaded cabinets stay where they are, and we clean around them.

Will the pet smell actually go?

If it is in the pad, surface cleaning will not touch it. We treat down at the pad with an enzyme and give it dwell time. Severe cases need the pad replaced and we will tell you that rather than take the job.

How often should carpet be cleaned?

Every twelve to eighteen months for most houses, and every six to nine with dogs, children or a light colored carpet. Waiting until it looks dirty means the grit has already been cutting the fiber for months.

Why does my rug have to leave the house?

Because a hand knotted rug has to be rinsed until the water runs clear, and there is no way to do that on your floor without soaking the subfloor underneath it.

How far do you travel?

Across Fairfax and Loudoun and out to Haymarket and Gainesville. If you are just past the edge of that, call and ask, because we are often nearby anyway.

Do I need to be home?

For the walkthrough, yes, so we can agree the scope together. After that plenty of customers leave us a key or a door code and go to work.

What will not come out?

Bleach spots, some old dye stains from pet urine, sun fading, and fiber that has already been abraded flat. We point those out before we start rather than after.

Have a look at it in person

Walkthroughs are free and take about fifteen minutes. We agree the scope together and point out anything that will not come out before a hose comes off the truck. Over a decade in Northern Virginia and that has not changed.
